Please update your cookie preferences or do not use our Site or Services if you are not comfortable with the ways in which we and any third parties described below use cookies and related technologies.

What is a cookie?

A cookie is a small file containing a unique identifier that is placed in the web browser of your computer or mobile device when you visit a site. Cookies and similar technologies (which include pixels, tags, web beacons and software development kits (“SDKs”)) (together “cookies”) enable site operators to recognise your device and collect information from it when you interact with a site. We use this information to understand how our Site and Services are being used, remember user preferences and improve users’ browsing experience. Cookies are also used to make any advertising you may see online more relevant to your interests. For a more detailed explanation of what cookies are and how they operate, please visit www.aboutcookies.org or www.allaboutcookies.org.

Who places cookies on my device?

Cookies set by the site you visit are called “first party cookies”. Cookies set by other parties are called “third party cookies”. First party cookies are cookies that are specific to the website that created them. They enable us operate our Site and Services efficiently and to track the patterns of behaviour of our Service users. Third party cookies enable third party features or functionality within our Site and/or Services, such as site analytics, advertising and social media features. The parties that set these third party cookies can recognise your computer or device both when you visit the site in question and also when you visit certain other sites and/or apps. We do not control how these third parties use your information, nor do we retain access to the information collected by third party cookies. The information is controlled wholly by that third party and is subject to their own privacy policies.

What cookies does Allied Universal use, and why?

Allied Universal uses both session cookies and persistent cookies:

  • We use session cookies to identify you during a particular visit to our Site and Services. Session cookies expire after a short time, or when you close your web browser or app after use

  • We use persistent cookies to identify you over a long period of time. (For example, if you asked us to keep you signed in, we would use a persistent cookie for that purpose.) Persistent cookies allow for quicker and often more convenient access to our Site and Services. They remain on your device for a set period of time specified in the cookie.

  • We use both first and third party cookies to operate, understand and improve our Site, specifically:

    • To authenticate you and secure our Site and Services: We use cookies to monitor login, session and status data. This allows us to know, for example, whether you are logged in.

    • To remember your settings and preferences: We use cookies to recognise your browser and remember your preferences. For example, we use cookies to remember your language preferences, to remember your information so that you will not have to re-enter it when using our Site or Services.

    • To carry out analytics and research: We use cookies to understand your use of our Site and Services and how we can improve our offerings. For example, we use cookies to track whether you open emails we send you and also to monitor and analyse the effectiveness of our Services, to monitor aggregate Site usage metrics such as the total number of visitors and pages viewed. Google Analytics is a service provided by Google, Inc. ("Google"), which we use to collect anonymised statistics on our Site and Services. You can learn about Google's practices by visiting Google Analytics and privacy, and opt out of them by downloading the Google Analytics Opt-Out Browser Add-on.

    • To personalise your experience: We use cookies to personalise your use of our Site and Services, including to serve you personalised advertising, content and information that may better suit your needs.

    • To detect fraud, ensure trust and safety, and carry out investigations:  We use cookies to keep our Site and Services safe, including to detect and prevent fraud and conduct investigations.

For further details please refer to the table of cookies below.

What cookies are used on our Site and Services?

A number of cookies are set on our Site and Services, some of which depend on how you use our Site and Services. These cookies, the parties that set them, the purposes of such cookies and the means by which you can opt-out, are listed in the table further below.

Pixels: Our advertising partners may use pixels or similar technology to measure the success of the sponsored posts or other advertising products they use. A “pixel” (also sometimes called web beacon, or clear GIF) is a tiny piece of code, invisible to the user, placed on a webpage or in an email and used in combination with a cookie, to link a given activity or impression back to the user; the advertiser includes it in its content so it can measure whether our members interact with that content (for example, by clicking to view an offer). We may set our own pixel on an advertiser’s website so we can measure whether our members found the advertiser’s content effective or interesting, by determining whether the sponsored post prompted members to take advantage of the advertised offer. This information helps us assess whether sponsored posts and other advertising offers are relevant and interesting to our members and successful for the advertiser.

SDKs: We, our partners and service providers include Software Development Kits (SDKs) in our apps. SDKs operate like cookies and allow us to understand how the app is used and what actions occur in relation to the app, including when a member signs up or logs in. SDKs are also used for advertising purposes including for measurement, personalisation and to create similar audiences to advertise to.
